Our in-house wall designer, Arlen Strengers, has a keen eye for angles. With several major projects under his belt, he understands the do’s and don’ts of visualizing and designing climbing walls. With over 15 years of professional routesetting experience, he knows how to create climbing surfaces that maximize space, look great, and—most importantly—climb and set even better.

LATEST PROJECT

Climbing Network, our main partner, is currently constructing one of the largest climbing facilities in Europe in Nieuwegein, Netherlands. We had the honor of leading the development of the building’s core product: climbing.

This National Climbing Center (NCC) will be a professional facility covering all disciplines of climbing, serving everyone from beginners to elite athletes. The facility will also become the home training center for the TeamNL climbing team.

HOLDS

The paint on the canvas. Holds bring wooden panels to life. Our vision was clear; functionality, aesthetics and diversity. The aim was to make the walls look as inviting as they can be. We want climbers to be inspired and motivated from the moment the step into a space. To create visual impact we are working with some elementary shapes, combining them in order to create contrast. Furthermore we are, the NCC holds a very wide variety of brands, making every route and boulder interesting and unique. This situation really gives the routesetter space to experiment and craft from a certain vision, instead of working with what is there.

WALLS

Every space in this gym has a different group of users and needs, this was an important starting point for wall design. Overall we kept the angles very minimal and the flat surfaces big and open. This provides full freedom for routesetting and less repetitive situations.
